Happy Hip joints & this week’s goals

I figured that reducing my exercise intensity would help my weight loss, but apparently not. Exercise is not the problem, it seems. So I am going to return to increasing the intensity of my workout this week again. I am going to do my Denise Austin dvd for the strength portion of it. It is 20 minutes and works out both upper and low body at the same time, like the Shred. Except there is no cardio. I am going to do the pilates dvd with weights which increases the intensity of what I was doing with Pilates. Plus it is different and my body is not used to that. As for cardio, I am not sure. I walked for 45 minutes today and Sparkpeople.com says that only burned 290 calories! I don’t feel as though that is enough! Plus I can’t run so it is not like I can log it under running…so I might go back to Tae bo since it burns more calories. I also want to start doing jump roping, but without a jump rope. Only I bet it will be like jogging/running in that I will only be able to do it for 30 seconds before needing to stop and lower the intensity.

Eating…I got off the wagon with. I am increasing my calories towards maintenance for a while though so it was not that bad. Plus when I went to the fair, I made healthy choices. Nothing fried, I ate a OIP sub for dinner. As snacks I had pop corn and 2 cups chocolate milk (both were free).

So I am going to continue with maintenance calories for a week or more until I think my body is ready and willing to lose weight again. So I am thinking of putting my spot up on the Wild cats for someone new, and becoming cheerleader, if they will keep me? ;)

Today my mom was complaining about her hips and I said I knew an exercise that would probably be good for your hips. I laid on my side and got into pike position (pilates) and showed her how to draw tiny circles with her toes/foot. I told her she could do so many one direction, then draw a circle in the other direction and of course switch sides/legs. Then I was showing her something else and she told me to stop…I was making her hips hurt worse! o.O

I tried…but I am happy to know that even if I am not burning many calories with my workouts, they will still keep my body happy and healthy and I might avoid health problems like arthritis…or at least minimize it.

    HEY DAGNY
YOU SAID YOU CANNOT RUN OR JUMPROPE. SO WHAT IF YOU START OUT WITH 30 SECONDS THAT IS HOW I STARTED OUT. JUST STAY WITH IT AND IT WILL INCREASE.. I LOVE HOW YOU ARE EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT THINGS TO SEE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU

Dagny, I’ve just tried a very fun way of doing cardio, kickboxing. I tried Patricia Moreno’s DVD (kickboxing core cross training) from the library, and it was great.

Walking doesn’t burn a lot of calories, but you can always try a step DVD as well, if you have a step, or an aerobics DVD if you do not. If you have a public library nearby, they stock all sorts of cool DVDs nowadays!

Good job on your weight loss and workout experimentation! You’re right, working out now can help you stay healthy when you’re older.
I agree with the first commenter- even if you can only do something for 30 seconds the first time, do it anyway. Each time you do it try to go for a little longer and before you know it you’ll be able to do it for 30 minutes! ;)

Your mom sounds like my mom!!! They drive me nuts! Complain but won’t do a damn thing about anything!!

    Keep experimenting hon!

I know little about giving workout advice but I have to say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to the leaving the Wildcats………….

You are too funny, inspiring, and just plain awesome to go any where.

Dagny! It is so good to see your blog and see that your mom is as quirky as ever! Seeing you all on here has done me a world of good and whatever the scale says tomorrow I am going to take it and roll with it. Thanks for being part of my inspiration! Missed you girl! And P.S. the Wildcats want you in whatever capacity you want to be there in. Big Hugs!!!

I know what you mean about pilates, it really makes you realize how when you get older your joints get all crappy so it motivates me too to keep doing it to keep my body happy.

Have you tried any Leslie Sansone? She does good low impact cardio. I like how you are always changing up to see what works for you.

Well I guess Nancy and Kama missed your comment on the cats. I DON’T WANT YOU TO LEAVE, so if you feel you must step down, you’re only stepping to cheerleader, no dropping of the team, my lovely!! As for the other stuff… I ain’t worried! I know you’ll figure it out!! ((((Dagny)))) I love you girl!! Don’t you DARE think about leaving the cats!! That’s like me saying I’m gonna leave em!!

Now just what are those hip exercises? I have arthritis in my hips and they hurt. So do my shoulders. I guess I don’t know what the pike position is.
